Rika Mulle at IFW 2017: Traditional Tasikmalaya Embroidery in Modern Cuts
By Elsa Toar - Feb 13, 2017
Rika Mulle brought Tasikmalaya embroidery to her S/S 2017 collection at the Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2017. Mulle named this collection “Krancang” which is originated from the word kerawang (looking transparent). The kerancang embroideries can be seen especially on the oversized tops and outerwears.
Besides the Tasikmalaya embroidery, Mulle also uses handmade Javanese traditional sinjang as wrapped skirts. Mulle presents them in asymmetrical cuttings. This combination of traditional crafts presented in a contemporary design gives Rika Mulle S/S 2017 collection a modern yet classic look.
The use of ivory, indigo blue, navy blue, and maroon as the dominating colors create a calm and soft look for this collection. Especially that these colors are put in soft materials such as organza, cotton, and silk. Overall, this collection shows classy yet modest designs. The outfits are suitable for both formal and informal occasions, and for both young and old customers.
In the runway, this collection was presented by models in rather minimalist make-up and hairstyles. This added more soft and modest impressions to the looks. However, Mulle also combined these looks with chunky-platform and wedges types of heels to give a more sophisticated and fancy look to the runway collection.
