Eugeneffectes, The Harajuku Muslim is Back!

Among designers lineup on Muslim Fashion Festival 2016 day 2, there was Eugene Effectes (Eugeneffectes), a muslim fashion brand owned and named after the designer, Eugene. Many people sitting on the show, was unaware and unfamiliar with the name, assume that this was another newcomer in Indonesia muslim fashion scene. Just a few would notice, that this Eugene is one of the first designer to mold hijabi style especially in Jakarta, 8 to 9 years back.

Around 2007-2008 Eugene set a facebook profile and start to post her fashion style, consistently. Eugene was a fashion school graduate and used to make her own clothing line, Eugeneffectes. She liked to take a selfie of her outfit, and becoming a living mannequin for her designs. That's when Eugene became hijabers main inspiration, and her personal style stand out among the emerging muslim fashion landscape. 

The dynamic of internet and social media then change the behavior of so called 'online seller' in Facebook, and also affect Eugene existence. She no longer relied on Facebook as it turned out to be too distracting for designer works, then she started taking custom order for her loyal customer. Around 2013-2014 she had to move to New Zealand and live abroad for 2 years, barely following fashion industry in Jakarta, although she still run the business, do some collaboration projects, and so on.

Now, she's back and run her first fashion show in Indonesia! (But this is not her first fashion week, she had participated in Malaysia Fashion Week in 2015). And she comeback loud and strong, with her collection 'Elegant City'. Wrap in her brand DNA which heavily inspired by Harajuku style.

You always find some unexpected looks, twisted, clashy and everything un-ordinary. From pattern clash, irregular and bizarre cutting, quirky details, Eugene always infuse those elements into the collection. 

With her signature hashtag, #gembelglamour, Eugene now begin (again) to introduce this new rule of style in muslim fashion. She certainly wouldn't want to be driven by market trend, instead, she stand with her personal style that reflects into her design and products.
