Main Collections from Ria Miranda for 2017By Elsa Toar - Jan 3, 2017
Ria Miranda teased modest fashion audience with her Spring/Summer Preview collection 2017 at the “Hijup.com and Wardah presents The Fourth riamiranda™ Annual Trend Show 2017" (10/12). In this annual show, Ria Miranda displayed 44 looks that consist in 5 collection themes. This collection was worn by 22 professional models on a stage that was decorated to represent riamiranda’s iconic pattern.
Riamiranda’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection comes with the theme called Relationship. This theme represents the human relationship with the society and environment around them (horizontal relationship) and human personal relationship with God (vertical relationship). According to Ria, Muslim fashion trend in 2017 will include more experiments with patterns, digital printed scarf, and tunics. Seventies style like bottom jeans and ruffled bohemian tops will be back on trend. Ria also said that there will be more modest fashion innovation like wudhu and breastfeeding-friendly outfits.
The first collection theme is Dejavu which brings back riamiranda’s Minang Heritage design that was first displayed at the Jakarta Fashion Week 2013. This collection brings back the concept of printing fabric, which Ria said feels like rendezvous. It is dominated by straight silhouette cuts, making it a more modern and simpler baju kurung. Although Dejavu brings back an old design, the color choice is totally different and fresh this time. Dejavu is dominated by earth tone colors, like olive green, soft brown, gray, silver blue, magenta purple, and redwood.
These colors are combined with bright colors, such as pink, mustard yellow, salmon coral, and pistachio green. This design and color combination makes the wearer looks both elegant and earthy.
The second collection is Principia which is inspired by Newton’s theory of gravity. Ria said that human and the environment around them have an attachment with each other. Human needs the earth and environment to survive, as well as earth needs human to take care of it. The firm yet light silhouette cuts represent a women character that is soft yet has a strong influence towards the environment. The dominating patterns in this collection are earth topography and riamiranda’s iconic pattern with some new touch that is inspired by classic wood crave. For the colors, Principia uses sky blue, blue ocean, maroon, and soft brown which are combined with bright colors, like pink salmon, peach, and mustard yellow. These colors are inspired by the beauty of Kelimutu Lake, East Nusa Tenggara.
The third collection, Florette, is Ria’s collaboration with young illustrator Cempaka Surakusumah. This collaboration displays a combination of Cempaka’s geometrical design that is inspired by flowers and riamiranda’s iconic pattern. Florette brings back 60’s youth style by using playful colors that are combined with riamiranda’s iconic pastel colors. Florette itself, which is a French for small flowers, symbolizes a prayer and the vertical relationship we have with people that are no longer with us.
The fourth collection is riamiranda’s Daily – Essential collection. This ready-to- wear collection is inspired by Muslim daily streetwear. The displayed looks are consisted of blouse, shirt, and casual outer. It has loose silhouettes and is dominated by cotton fabric, making it comfortable for daily wear. Daily collection uses soft colors like lilac, dusty pink, olive green, and light blue, combined with riamiranda’s iconic pattern.
The last collection is riamiranda’s newest menswear collection called Mind. This collection is inspired by Javanese traditional clothing, such as beskap and surjan. Despite this, Ria makes the collection looks more modern and trendy by using color tones that will be the 2017 color trend, such as gray, navy blue, and khakis. Ria makes the wearers look sharp by applying simple cutting and clean looks into hard fabrics like linen and twill.
These five collection themes show Ria Miranda’s concrete contribution and consistency towards Muslim fashion industry in Indonesia. The revenue from the sold products partially will be donated to Yayasan Ar-Ridho, Bintaro. This gives an opportunity for riamiranda’s customers to not only buy the collection but also help those in need. For more information, visit riamiranda.com.
