Amsterdam to Host Indonesia Cultural Fashion 2016By Elsa Toar - Nov 29, 2016
Four Indonesian talented designers will present their designs at the Indonesia Cultural Fashion (ICF) 2016 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The four designers are Lily Mariasari, Terry Puteri, Rizaro, and Inne Rachma Hardjanto. With the event theme “The Colour of Indonesia,” these four designers will be showcasing their collections that represent the uniqueness and diversity of Indonesian culture.
Lily Mariasari with her brand Elemwe will introduce batik Betawi to the European market through her Muslim ready-to-wear collection. What differentiates batik Betawi with other Indonesian batik is its pattern which displays symbols of Betawi culture such as Ondel-ondel and Kerak Telor. Lily puts plain fabric together with a mix of both stamped and handmade batik. She also uses various materials, combining cotton with brocade and sequins.
While Lily Mariasari introduces Betawi culture, Terry Puteri with her brand Territory will be displaying South Kalimantan's Sasirangan through her special collection called “Territory of Indonesia.” For her fashion show at the ICF 2016, Terry Puteri cooperates with the original craftsmen of Sasirangan from Kalimantan. As the ICF 2016 will take place during winter in Amsterdam, Terry Puteri adjusts her 8 designs by using warm materials, hoping that it will be more suitable for the Europeans and their weather.
Meanwhile, Rizaro with her brand Sun Summit will bring West Sumatran culture to Netherlands. Rizaro gives a Minangkabau touch to her ethnic sporty collection. Not only Minangkabau, Rizaro will also introduce batik Tanah Liek and Makassar silk which she combines with Kalimantan’s typical embroidery and sequins. By showcasing batik Tanah Liek, Rizora also hopes that the background story of batik Tanah Liek will be known better and become an attraction at the international market. The materials she uses are dominated by batik, wool, and jacquard.
Different from the other three designers, Uemara, Inne Rachma Hardjanto’s brand, is a brand of hijab which is based in Netherlands and whose market target is European Muslims. Hardjanto comes up with the idea of daily hijab style that grows among Europeans which she characterized as simple, elegant, and understated style yet chic, lively, and feminine. Uemara’s materials are mostly silk and chiffon.
Amsterdam, Netherlands is chosen because it’s considered to be one of the fashion capitals of the world. The founder of ICF 2016 Iwan Kurniawan hopes that ICF will be an annual event and he’d like Amsterdam to be the starting city of ICF. The fashion show will be presented in front of 250 invited guests, including Dutch fashion observers, bloggers, media, as well as Indonesian community in Netherlands.
ICF 2016 will take place on December 18th, 2016 at Posthoornkerk, Haarlemmerstraat 124-126, 1013 EX Amsterdam, Netherlands.
